As I've mentioned, I was once "schooled" in the idea that the United States is a "Christian Nation". But, as the health care reform debate goes on and on, and the public option seems to be the "thing" that may end up sacrificed in this attempt to please all the people all the time... I ask, "Are we really a 'Christian' nation?" Is it really "Christ-like" to allow corporations to get rich, while so many individuals are left to get poor? Is it really "Christ-like" to place financial or medical stumbling blocks before the poor? Exactly which Christ is it that we are emulating in this country?
The Psalm for Evening Prayer is the last half of 106, which includes:
Save us, O Lord our God,
and gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
May these words serve as the pillow for my weary head that is so pained by this debate.
Me too! I can't understand why people don't see that we already have socialized medicine and we really have to do something to make things better.
